The Hancock Shaker Village boasts a stunning collection of buildings, furniture, crafts, and other artifacts from the Shakers, a famous Protestant denomination that thrived in the 19th century. Artisans work and explain their craftsmanship in authentic Shaker shops while heritage breed animals roam the pastures; and a historic community comes to life through these elements and other exhibitions and demonstrations. The village sprawls across 1,200 acres of restored farmland and woods beside Bates Memorial State Park, a few miles west of Pittsfield and just above Richmond Pond.
